TIMES — The Independent Movement for Electronic Scenes

As a key partner of the TIMES project, Nuits sonores has conceived a part of its programme in collaboration with three European festivals and commissioned an original multidisciplinary piece.

Co-funded by the European Union and led by Arty Farty, The Independent Movement for Electronic Scenes (TIMES) is a collaboration between 10 European electronic and contemporary music festivals focused on commissioning original works of music and digital arts, as well as co-programming artists and thinkers. TIMES also aims to support, promote, and enhance sustainable practices among its partners, whether social, ecological, or economic.

The partners are: Berlin Atonal (DE), Elevate (AT), Insomnia (NO), Le Guess Who? (NL), Nuits sonores (FR), Reworks (GR), Semibreve (PT), Sónar (ES), Terraforma (IT) and Unsound (PL).
This year, Nuits sonores invites Reworks, Berlin Atonal and Insomnia.

Heith, James K & Günseli Yalcinkaya present ‘The Talk’ (live AV), a world premiere at Nuits sonores

The Talk is a multi-disciplinary performance by musicians Heith and James K with artist-researcher Günseli Yalcinkaya, featuring original set design by Andrea Belosi. Presented in the style of a surreal panel talk, the show takes inspiration from the Antikythera mechanism, considered to be the world’s first artificial computer.

Through hypnotic soundscapes and spoken word intervals, the act explores the ways in which narratives, as told through the lens of various technologies, shape our perception of reality.

The piece will be played at Le Sucre on May 28th for the Nuit 1 of Nuits sonores 2025.

About

A multi-disciplinary performance, featuring musicians Heith and James K, artist-researcher Günseli Yalcinkaya and original set design by Andrea Belosi. Presented in the style of a surreal panel talk, the show takes inspiration from the Antikythera mechanism, the world’s first artificial computer, to imagine an atemporal reality where hypnotic soundscapes open up portals into the unknown, and spoken word intervals act as fictioning tools to explore the ways in which narratives, as told through the lens of various technologies, shape our perception of reality.

This work was commissioned by Nuits sonores, Reworks, Terraforma, and Sónar as part of a cooperative project led by TIMES (The Independent Movement for Electronic Scenes).
