The Mancunian electronic pioneers 808 State, known for iconic albums like Ninety, Gorgeous, ex:el, and Don Solaris, draw inspiration as much from their city’s industrial past as from Detroit techno, while staying true to their futuristic vision. Formed in 1988 by Graham Massey, Martin Price, and Gerald Simpson, the group played a key role in the early UK acid house scene.
Their debut album, Newbuild, is now regarded as a milestone in British electronic music, followed by Quadrastate, which included Pacific State, a Haçienda night anthem later picked up by BBC Radio 1. In 2025, 808 State continues to perform worldwide under Massey’s leadership, with their music inspiring and influencing audiences wherever they play.
