Olivier Hamant is a biologist and researcher at INRAE, based at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. He is also an author and speaker. He has published around one hundred scientific papers on biophysics and plant development. His research also raises, from a new perspective, questions about the robustness of living systems. Informed by this fundamental research, and in his role as director of the Michel Serres Institute, he contributes to several projects in the fields of art, science, and education, focusing on the existential challenges of the Anthropocene. The concept of the robustness of living systems notably informs his reflections on the lessons we can learn from living organisms for inhabiting the Earth (La troisième du vivant, Odile Jacob; Antidote au culte de la performance, Gallimard).
