Mélanie Mazan has built her commitment at the intersection of ecology, the social and solidarity economy, and the cultural sector.

After several years working on the development of the social and solidarity economy and on energy–climate policies within local government, she shifted direction in 2020 toward the world of books and reading, becoming a bookseller in an independent neighborhood bookstore in Paris.

In 2022, she joined the coordination team of the Association for the Ecology of Books, a network of professionals committed to a radical ecological transformation of the book and reading ecosystem. Alongside other activist networks in publishing, culture, and ecology, the association advocates for slowing down production and increasing environmental responsibility within the sector, as well as for the independence and cooperation of its stakeholders and greater diversity of voices in publishing and in society at large.

Her work particularly focuses on the industrial dynamics of the book sector, the concentration of publishing, and issues related to representation and collective imaginaries.
