Matheus Souza is a composer, improviser, and performer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His work focuses on electroacoustic music and free improvisation, spanning solo live electronics, acousmatic music, and mixed compositions. He has collaborated with visual artists, dancers, and musicians in experimental, jazz, noise, and ambient music. Souza’s research explores physical engagement in live electronics performance with modular instruments.
His setup includes a Buchla Easel Command, a Sensel Morph with a Buchla Thunder overlay, and a custom Erica Synths system with a Spring Reverb tank as an electroacoustic instrument. After earning a Violin Performance diploma from UNIRIO, he completed his Master’s in Contemporary Performance and Composition (CoPeCo) in 2024 at CNSMD de Lyon. In 2023, he released Terra, a solo Buchla album, and in 2024, completed a residency at Erica Synths, premiering Diode. He is currently pursuing a DNSPM in Contemporary Composition at CNSMD de Lyon.
