Dumama is a musician, composer, sonic poet and creative producer from the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Her practice questions and deconstructs archaic modes of representation within Southern African and broader African sonic and performance cultures. Through storytelling, writing and composition, she weaves together childhood songs, narratives and personal memories with electronic sound, exploring the space between traditional oral culture and futuristic poetics.
Her work has been presented at numerous institutions and festivals across South Africa, Europe and the United States, including SAVVY Contemporary, Gropius Bau, Humboldt Forum, Zeitz MOCAA, Oyoun Kultur NeuDenken and Berlin XJazz.
