Maya Kandel is a historian specialising in the United States and transatlantic relations, and an independent researcher associated with the Université Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle.

She is also a consultant, lecturer and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the journal Questions Internationales, and writes a fortnightly column on the United States for Mediapart. She has written four books, several book chapters and numerous articles.

 

Her work focuses on the transformation of the American right wing, issues of influence and disinformation, and American foreign policy.
In 2022, she was Senior Fellow and Director of the United States Programme at the Institut Montaigne. From 2017 to 2021, she was in charge of the United States and transatlantic relations at CAPS, the Centre for Analysis, Forecasting and Strategy of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. From 2011 to 2016, she created and directed the United States programme at the Institut de recherche stratégique de l'École militaire (IRSEM, Ministry of Defence, 2011-2016).

 

Maya Kandel holds a PhD in History from the Doctoral School of Sciences Po Paris (2010), a Master's degree in International Relations from Columbia University (SIRPA, School of International and Public Affairs) and is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris.
