WAW! [DJ Reine Claude, MC Gorgeous & Lyon waacking project]

The WAW! (What a Whack!) is a joyful and flamboyant gathering where music and dance reign supreme. Like a disco ball, it spreads light and illuminates all the identities present, making them shine, revealing them. The WAW! is also a collective of DJs, MCs, and dancers, united around a vision of celebration rooted in the Whacking culture. This dance style was created in the 1970s by racially marginalized gay men in an underground club in Los Angeles as a way to emancipate themselves and break free from their oppressions.
